Lack of Guidance

Lack of Guidance is an Amsterdam-based brand founded in 2016, by Rens van Strien and Akaar Amin. The duo grew up with a love of football, the brand takes its inspiration from there. The nostalgia brought by the duo is something they incorporate into their clothes. The brand aims to combine football with fashion. Lack of Guidance has a retro vintage football look, including knitted jumpers, retro scarves and simple T-shirts in a variety of colours. Not only the back story of this brand is cool but also their items. The duo wants to offer clothes that fit their own aesthetic, and not because they will sell well commercially.

Extraordinary collections

The brand released an Iran collection in 2021, in this collection they brought extra attention to former footballer Ali Daei. He was the first footballer to score 100 international goals. Daei played at Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin, meanwhile in the record broken by Cristiano Ronaldo. The collection was a one-piece longsleeve T-shirt, and has become very famous all over the world. For instance, people from Iranian backgrounds around the world ordered the collection. The brand also capitalised on racism in football, which is how the collection Raheem on a Sterling came out. There was a lot of racism in England towards players with skin colour, especially towards player former Chelsea player Raheem Sterling. With this collection, the duo tried to make it clear that all backgrounds, class and colour are allowed to play football, and that racism has no place in the world of football.

A recent project by Lack of Guidance is the World Cup scandal in Qatar, where thousands of workers were killed. They also call it the "World cup of shame", the brand wanted it to be not about football or fashion this time, but about human lives and rights. In this, the duo wants to help and make their voices heard. That is why they made FIFA'S ex-president Sepp Blatter a piggy bank. The piggy bank costs 6,500.00 euros, which is the number of workers killed in Qatar. The proceeds will go to the human rights fund.

Lack of Guidance is definitely a brand to keep an eye on, not only their clothes are catchy but also their background stories. Check out Lack of Guidance's range now at Bruut.
